About
History & Founding
ECFCO was founded in 2019 when a group of Brockport Middle School students noticed an excessive amount of food waste occurring in the school cafeteria. With the help of teachers and community members, ECFCO's small fruit collecting operation became incorporated as a nonprofit.
ECFCO was formally incorporated as East Coast Food Conservation Organization, INC. on December 18th, 2019, in the State of New York. Following its incorporation, ECFCO was able to become tax-exempt, both from NYS tax and federal tax.
While fruit collection has been temporarily suspended due to the current pandemic, ECFCO has expanded our operation to gardening and continues to operate the ECFCO-Presbyterian Church Community Garden, founded in March of 2021, located on 35 State Street, Brockport NY, 14420. We invite you to stop by and visit us sometime!
